If you missed our introduction post, you can find it here. But as a quick overview, this series came about because I just truly believe that beauty is not defined by an size, shape, or color. I really wanted to be able to show my readers how to style pieces on different body types, but couldn't very well do that myself! ha. So I asked Delayna if she would like to join me and it turns out we had the same heart on the matter. So, I bring you our second Style Monthly. Today we are showing you how to wear off the shoulder.
Now I have to tell you the hilarious story of how this shoot came about. This field of sunflower stems was not exactly the ideal location for a shoot, so why in the world did we shoot here? Well, let me tell you. We had both seen and heard about the Sunflower Field out by DIA, but neither of us had been. We knew we need to do at least one outfit shoot there so why not do it together. Delayna, our awesome photographer, Britt and I met up at the location we were given by someone who had shot in the field last year. When we arrived there was not a single sunflower to be seen. Nothing. You could tell they had been there at one point, but no longer.
Well, it turns out they move the field every year. Why, I have no idea! I guess to keep us on our toes?! So we started to research where the current location was and after being 80% sure, we hopped back on the road to keep searching. At some point we realized we were going the wrong direction and had to pull over again. You can imagine the three of us in an apartment complex parking lot, shouting at each other through our car windows about what to do next! We knew the field was in a more remote location, not near homes. So we decided to drive the opposite direction.
Good news is we found the field about five miles down the road. Bad news is, the flowers had not bloomed yet! Needless to say, we were out of time, a little bummed, and just needed to get this shoot done. Hence the empty sunflower field at midday shots! But, we had a blast because these girls are so fun and upbeat, and we got the photos so I suppose it wasn't a complete waste!
Off the shoulder is a classic look, that I think will be around for awhile. There are so many different styles, so depending on where you live, they can be worn year round. I decided to style my look for transitioning into fall. The olive color of the top and brown of the shoes are the perfect color combo for fall. This pretty off the shoulder top looked best with a clean denim so as to keep the top as the highlight of the outfit. You can shop my exact top here. I have it available in a few other colors, too.
I love how Delayna added a cute hat and simple gold jewelry to her look. She's beautiful and she's got this fashion thing down! Head on over to her blog to read her side of the story :)
